Initiated by Shri Ajay Nambudiri M.A.M.Phill (Music), guided supported by Shri Neyveli.R.Santhanagopalan, eminent Carnatic Musician and an Expert Committee as Board of Directors, consisting of Vidwans and Rasikas, Viswa Kala Peetam was formally inaugurated on Vijayadasami day, October 12, 2005.
The center will be renowned for its Quality and not Quantity. As much as the faculty will be experienced and proficient in their respective disciplines, the objective of excellence will entail very rigid norms in the selection of students. Simultaneous coaching at two or three levels is envisaged to accommodate students of different backgrounds and skills. Future Residential accommodation in the tradition of Gurukulam is also planned, once the infrastructure and manpower are organized.
There will be selected listening sessions of the recorded works of Classical Maestros, so also special videos of concerts and lectures, to add variety and to enrich the curriculum.
Depending on the interest of the students, Hindustani Classical Music lessons may also be initiated in the curriculum.
Viswa Kala Peetam is planned to operate as a non-profit making Center mainly to encourage scholarship in all departments of music and to strive towards overall excellence. At the beginning, we will be only having classes for Vocal (Carnatic Music) soon we will introduce other forms of Art and Culture.
